living from the inside out

at one point or another, we all take life for granted and begin moving through the motions rather than existing with purpose, as intentions vanish and our very essence is temporarily forgotten.

then, out of the blue, someone or something comes along to kindly remind you that life is meant to be a brightly-colored journey full of adventure that keeps you coming back for more. doing things just because you have always done them or because it is all you know is no longer enough. a yearning to feel the fire inside rekindles your burning desire and you suddenly realize you can, at any given moment, remove from your life all the things that are not bringing love to your heart and invite only those things that nurture your soul and vividly saturate your world with shades you have never known.

everything leading up to this moment was merely preparation for all that is to come. you do not want to waste time on petty things that have absolutely no meaning. you learn to love as if it is the only thing you are here to do, holding those people who truly matter close to your heart and soaking up every second you have been gifted. your tender heart aches for permission to open, your truth is peeking out from behind your mask and your soul sets itself free from the lonely cage by which it has been imprisoned.

you are done pretending. artificial actions no longer fit into your vivacious universe. that, in and of itself, is beyond any words that can be spoken.

soul meets soul on lovers’ lips.

have you ever caught yourself watching someone dance? listening to their body. reading their face. hearing the words they have not yet spoken aloud. the dancer moves through the space with such passion, telling her story through movement, freeing herself of any chains holding her down, as if saying “i am unapologetically me in this moment. i have nothing to hide, nothing to prove to anyone. i will do as i please.”

there is freedom in truth. the body does not lie.

life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.

there is nothing in this world like the feeling of rain falling on my face. add a kiss to that delightful downpour and you have what i call a perfect storm. next time you find yourself out in the rain, take your lover into your arms and kiss her until she is all kissed-out.

true art lies in the eyes (and ears) of the beholder. what looks, sounds and feels good to me may not be the least bit appealing to another human being on earth. music has always had the ability to completely transform me to another world. earthy, raw, passionate voices speak right to my heart. i have included a few of my favorite artists that have touched, and continue to touch, my soul.

this creature deserves a blog all to himself. 76 years old and still lives his life exactly the way he wants. this picture, full of beauty, captures the qualities i love about him most…humility, quiet confidence, wisdom, gentleness, a little bit rebel, experience, a life lived. i have always been intrigued by his beautiful soul.

her music exudes passion and truth. i always feel that her music, every song, is a way for her to say something she can no longer keep locked inside of her, something she must share. and she does it effortlessly without wasting words.

musically, he is my favorite artist. i have never experienced anything like it. there are not many artists who can move me with every single one of their songs, but he has a way of doing just that…his voice, his words, his soul, his ability to express every possible emotion. i put him in a category of his own.

i love this picture. it is the cover of her bare album. as an individual and as an artist, she embraces so many of the qualities i admire in a human being: strength, vulnerability, truthfulness, emotion, grace, compassion, authenticity.

i think i have just as much fun watching this sweet thing as i do listening to him. he seems to get sexier by the second. he just came out with a new album, defying gravity, and it is, in my opinion, his best yet. if you click on his photo, you can go straight to his website and hear his sweet new singles, kiss a girl and sweet thing.

at 69 years of age, she is still dancing (in heels) as if it is the only thing she has to do. this woman can move like no other. her energy is boundless and her power as a person is beyond measure. she has been pure inspiration for me throughout the years.
